lance-armstrongs-interview-oprah-winfrey-cyclist-admits-
doping-18224500
Today I was on small break to wind down a bit. Well, while I was sitting down for th ought I
turned on the TV. On the news I was informed that Lance Armstrong had met with Oprah Winfrey
to confess his shameful doping. This started me to think how such a hero could fall from grace?
For years Lance had become, in my eyes, an honourable & impressive athlete. He had wrestled
with cancer and became a victor. For all intents and purposes Lance Armstrong had become
the "Michael Jordan" of the cycling world. Many of us sported his endorsed, rubber, & yellow
colored bands. I wore the band myself as a reminder of what we can become when we simply
believe. So, now we have sadly found out that this inspirational icon had been doping along.
Many, many times he had been asked about possible wrong doing or dishonesty. His response had
been echoed a resounding "no" for years. My emotion was initially of shame.
You see, I am a huge sports fan. I really like to watch athletes do amazing and incredible things.
They become so remarkable in our eyes, we become shocked when they become normal after
having heard of transgressions. Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, Pete Rose, Mark McGuire and others
have shown us that heroes aren't perfect. Nonetheless, let's choose to find the good in not only
our sports icons, but also in ourselves.
The biggest step is not the step towards the basketball hoop, the endzone, the last hole in golf, or a homerun. The biggest step is understanding we all are capable of amazing, incredible things, and conversely we all are fallible. We are prone to mistakes. It seems that we are to quick to fall down & focus on the fall, but not quick enough to rise up! It's ok to know we are not perfect. It's better to learn from our own falls, then to dwell on the fall & not how we can rise from it. When we have the potential to become more than we are. Most successful people make a habit of doing what unsuccessful will not do.
Okay, so now we move forward. We continue to understand that a mistake isn't then end. How do we focus on the positve from bad experiences? Surround yourselves with positive things. Read positive books, emails, or magazines. Be premptive or prepared, so that when you face a difficult experience, you've had already been prepared. Be strong.
